Marlene's creations are primarily in acrylic but she also enjoys painting in oils and watercolours.

Her painting career began in 1989. At this time she owned an art gallery promoting local artists. Between clients, and with no formal training, she began to create her unique style. All of her works are original and she has decided not to have any reproductions.

Born in Toronto, in 1944, a third generation Ukrainian, Marlene was raised in the south-west portion of Toronto known as Long Branch. After completion of high school she worked as a medical stenographer and then medical secretary at the Toronto Western Hospital. After her marriage, she moved to Oshawa with her husband, where they raised three children.

Marlene now resides with her husband in the hamlet of Enfield, just north of Oshawa, where she paints in her studio. She has won numerous awards including the Toronto Purchase Award at the annual Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition at Nathan Philips Square. In 2004, one of her works was published in a sociology text book. Her studio is open to visitors by appointment. Phone (905) 263-2303 or email siomra@gmail.com.
